Why good touch controls make or break strategy games

I've dropped more strategy games over bad controls than bad ideas. On a phone, every misplaced tap during a tight wave feels like a betrayal. The best designers plan for thumbs, not cursors.

The things I look for: generous tap targets, a confirm step for expensive actions, and the ability to pause and plan. Pinch-to-zoom that actually works is underrated — I need to see the whole map and the detail.

One-handed play is a quiet luxury. Games that keep the important buttons near the bottom edge get a lot more of my commute time than those that spread everything across the screen.

If a game respects your hands, you'll forgive a lot elsewhere. If it doesn't, no amount of clever design saves it.
